Flown Heavenly Body Calendar FLOWN to the Moon on Apollo XII
From Richard Gordon's personal collection.

It is a well known fact that the back up crew for Apollo XII (the crew of Apollo XV) spiced up the wrist cuff check lists with, ahem, anatomy lessons for moonwalkers Conrad and Bean. This is documented in the HBO series "From The Earth To The Moon". What WASN'T mentioned in the show is that one "Map of a Heavenly Body"  [dubbed "Miss November"] was left for Dick in the Command Module, Yankee Clipper. Rumor has it that this was stashed on board by a certain NASA guy by the name of A.M. Worden. While the years have made a hazy recollection of exactly WHERE this item was found, Dick says that it "was not in my lunch box"

This item is approximately 6.25" x 4.5", printed on card stock with four velcro squares on the back so that Dick wouldn't lose track of the day of the week and carries a copyright from H.M.H Publishing Company.

Since this is a family web site, we had to cover up Miss DeDe Lind's moon globes, but, rest assured, the real deal isn't covered up. Here's your chance to meet Dick's travelling companion while Pete and Al were kicking up dust. Just goes to prove that he was never alone.

This is TRULY a one of a kind offering.  Rarer than a flown "Beep-Beep" patch!

Apollo XI Official First Day Issue Cover
From Richard Gordon's personal collection.

Click a Photo Above For a Larger View
This striking cover is hand-signed by Armstrong, Collins, & Aldrin and is in first-rate condition. It is an artifact of the NASA Manned Spacecraft Center Stamp Club. It bears a beautiful color cachet by famous cartoonist, Milton Caniff, depicting the first men at work on the Moon. Also shown are the Lunar Lander, and the American flag. The Command Module can be seen in the distant sky as it orbits the Moon.

The cover has two postal cancellations: "Moon Landing - July 20, 1969 USA" and "Washington, D.C. Sep 9, 1969"

The master printing die for the Apollo 11 stamp, made from the artwork created by Paul Calle, was carried to and from the moon. It is a color depiction of the 'first man on the moon' - and is marked 'First Day Issue'. The stamp is the first jumbo-size commerative issue by the Postal Service.

On the reverse Richard has provided his signature and states that it is from his personal collection. Also on the reverse is a black & white Apollo XI insignia on the flap, and below is a black and white photo of the 'For All Mankind..." plaque left on the lunar surface by the crew. This item is a cover collectors dream - a limited edition piece of postal history.

Similar covers have sold for between $4,000.00 and $6,500.00 at auctions in 2006.

Apollo XVI Lunar Landing Map
From Richard Gordon's personal collection.
These mosaics of the lunar surface were obtained by unmanned spacecraft which were precursors to the manned Apollo lunar landings. These maps helped us locate our position around the moon.

This lunar map was used during Apollo XII to photograph, with a high resolution lens, the landing site for Apollo XVI, the Descartes plateau. It shows the ground track of Apollo XII on revolution 42. The IP (initial point) starts at crater Kant C which is 2 minutes, 19 seconds from DE 1 (Descartes).
To the right of the map is the time line from the IP to DE 1. DE 1 is landmarked at latitude (LAT) -8.883 degrees, which is south of the equator, and longitude /2 of +07.775, which is east of 0 degree longitude, and an altitude of -001.70 nautical miles. To the left margin of the map is a nautical mile scale.

This lunar map consists of four panels taped together and folded; it allowed the crew to follow their ground track to the target (Descartes). It is strongly desired that the panels remain together so that the entire story they tell will be available for future generations.

The only panel to be signed by Richard Gordon, CMP, is the targeted landing site. None of the other panels will be signed at the time of purchase, or in the future.

Some panels bear slight water damage. The entire set has been restored and archivally preserved by an old world master restorer.

Extremely Rare, Large American Flag Flown to the Lunar Surface onboard Intrepid
From Richard Gordon's personal collection.
The larger variety of flown to lunar surface flags are amazingly rare and as you can imagine quite difficult to come by. This beautiful example was flown to the lunar surface with Astronauts Conrad & Bean aboard Apollo 12's Lunar Module "Intrepid" (Nov. 19th - 20th, 1969). It is accompanied by a Richard Gordon hand signed certificate of authenticity detailing this history.

This lunar flown flag measures 17 1/4" x11 3/4" and is mounted on a presentation measuring 20" x 16". The affixed label reads, "Sailed with Yankee Clipper and Intrepid to the Ocean Of Storms - November, 1969" and is hand signed underneath by Richard Gordon.

Translunar/Transearth Onboard Color Television Checklist
From Richard Gordon's personal collection.
Click a Photo Above For a Larger View
This little gem was used aboard Apollo XII for various color and black and white camera settings and is packed with information. The data card was used for television F-stops and various lens sizes (80mm, 250mm, 500mm, etc.) for TRANSLUNAR/TRANSEARTH photography - for the trip out, and the trip home.

Looking at the bottom of the chart, as an example: Pictures of the Earth (TRANSEARTH - coming home) would be full frame at GET (ground elapsed time) of 173 hours, 13 minutes using the 80mm lens. GET data was available on the Mission Elapsed Time Clock. Some of Alan's hand calculations are seen on the card.

The other side of the card provides settings for lunar orbit. It also has F-stops for different lenses. The legend to the left reads:
GENERAL - photographing anything
TERM - terminator - between shadow and sunlight
ZERO PHASE - Sun directly overhead
SITE OBLQ - for oblique angles to subject
VEH/VEH - vehicle to vehicle
EARTH - self explanatory
INTERIOR - inside the spacecraft
The graphic at the bottom was for photography through the sextant - usually used by Dick. This special data card checklist comes with a provenance signed by both Dick and Alan.
